This season started out looking as if it was going to be a complete impossibility. The first Summit ET points race was rained out, then the second. Now we raced the third Sunday points race, and it finally happened! The sun was out, weather was warm and relief that the first points race sponsored by K.B. Performance was finally in the books, or on the spread sheets in this case.
With record numbers of racers in each category and points members still signing up, Sunday, May 19 was looking to be a great day of racing. The new racing format of one time trial in each class on Sunday points days went well and withover 250 cars in attendance we were able to complete the day by 6:00pm. Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to all who support Lebanon Valley Dragway.
Sunday we were once again visited by the North East Timing Organization (NETO). In the NETO Competiton class, Brian English of Norwalk, CT took top honors when he defeated Sal Lombardo of Point Pleasant, NJ. Vinny Laurita, Sr. of Lagrangeville, NY finished in the semi-finals. NETO Nostalgia was won by Frank Paradiso, Jr. of Marlboro, NJ when he defeated Lou Taraseio of Lake Hopatcong, NJ.
Super Eliminator with a great field of over 75 cars ended the day with a dual of the dragsters when Bob DiNino of Waterbury, CT took on Super Champion Keith Lauzier of Winsted, CT. Bob took the victory for the first race of the season. Zach Patricelli of Troy, NY finished his day in the semi-finals.
With over 90 entries in Pro Eliminator, it was guaranteed to be an exciting day. Pete Bushnell of Manchester, CT faced off with DJ Pires of Somerset, MA in the final. Pete in a borrowed car, took the victory in the final. Joe Grasso of Higganum, CT and Anthony Johnson of Schenectady, NY finished their day in the semi-finals.
Matt Gazaille of Putnam, CT defeated Jeff Tisdale of Glastonbury, CT in the final of the Motor/Sled eliminator. Brian Propper of Malta, NY finished in the semi-finals.
Robert Giacoio of Highland Falls, NY was the winner over Sarah Bushnell-Carbone of Manchester, CT in the final of Open Trophy. If the name Bushnell sounds familiar, her father won in Pro. Chris Clemons of Pittsfield, MA and Jim Brown of Clinton, CT finished in the semi-finals.
Dayton Cocchiaro of Willingford, CT defeated Ava Eckert of Wallingford, CT in the final of Junior Dragsters. Haven Spring of Wetherfield, CT finished her day in the semi-finals.
John Couture of Ellington, CT defeated Juleyen Laughran-Carter of Bernardston, MA in the final of Junior Street. William Harper of Brimfield, MA and Giuseppe Porfilio of East Longmeadow, MA finished in the semi-finals.
As we look forward to the season, the NHRA Division 1 Bracket finals will be hosted by Lebanon Valley Dragway this year, September 19-22, 2024. Each track sends a team of representatives from their Summit point series classes to compete against each other as individuals and as teams. Our team captains, Kevin & Missy Billetts, are trying to get a jump on ideas for Team Lebanon Valley and ask for assistance from the Lebanon Valley Points Members. As a reminder, this week is filled with more exciting racing. Wednesday will host the Street Night Test and Tune with the gates opening at 5pm. Friday will be host to the OSTC Track Rental which is an open rental for anyone wishing to test their vehicles. Gates open at 3pm and pre-registration can be found on the dragway website. Saturday will host the Nutty Money No Prep Race and Sunday will be the Spring Musclemania Car Show, Swap Meet and Musclecar Drag Racing along with the SuperCar Shootout and Funny Car Spectacular. There will be no test and tune on Sunday.
