"Never Give Up" is Rewarded with a Win in Sportsman ET to a Long Time Racer

Andy Assman, winner of Sportsman ET

If you’ve been racing since 1974, which by the way is much longer than a lot of you have been alive, would you keep racing if you’d never brought home a trophy??? Drag racing is truly more than just the win. It is about the comradery, family, social atmosphere and yup, that three letter word that sneaks in there, FUN.

One very special person took home the win on Wednesday Street Night, September 21, 2022. Racing in the Sportsman ET class, he defeated one of the long time, well-respected racers and took home a very special Monster Madness trophy. It wasn't so much the trophy that he coveted but that winner's sticker that only those who win their class receive. Andy Assman of Ballston Spa, NY defeated Bill Kirpens, Sr of Pittsfield, MA to take home the trophy. Jim Schmidbauer of Albany, NY finished in the semi-finals for the evening. Congratulations, Andy!

In Street Stick, Ed Wallace of Middletown, CT took home the special trophy when he defeated Corey Dufel of Fort Johnson, NY. Michael Phillips of Thomaston, CT finished in the semi-finals.

Pure Street Motorcycle saw the competition between the Gores when Gerome Gore of Springfield, MA defeated Sean Gore of Hampden, MA. Guy Gardner of Stuyvesant, NY finished in the semi-finals.

Street Trophy's special trophy went to Jim Guilbeau of Granby, MA when he defeated Anthony Catricala of Troy, NY. Jim Hinman of Schenectady, NY and Anthony DePasquale of Valatie, NY lost in the semi-final round.

Wednesday, September 28, 2022 will be the final Wednesday night racing for the 2022 season. Gates will open at 5pm with racing on the quarter mile beginning at 6pm. Hope to see you there!
