Great Wednesday Street Night Under the Stars

If you're looking for a great opportunity to race under the lights, for a bit of a test and tune session or to join in one of the street competitive categories, Wednesday nights are for you (as long as you have a working tail light) at Lebanon Valley Dragway. For the last couple of weeks, the test and tune portion was opened up to all competitors, big and small, as long as they meet all the NHRA rules to come on out and join in. This will continue, so don't miss out.

For those just starting out and not quite sure how bracket racing works, there's the Trophy Class. On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, it was great to see some new faces in the class. Joe Wilkinson won the winner's trophy when he defeated Brandon Cofrancisco. Unfortunately, Chuck Geroux could not make the call for the semi-finals sending Joe and Brandon directly into the finals.

If your car is a stick shift, there's a competitive class for you where all the cars are pulling gears to head down the quarter-mile. Ed Wallace of Middletown, CT defeated Colby Pitcher of Morris, CT in the final round to take home the trophy. Zack Leavitt of New Lebanon, NY finished in the semi-finals.

Do you ride a motorcycle? If you think that you have to have the fastest bike? The Pure Street Motorcycle class was won by Rich Kopec of Cairo, NY on his 2004 Harley Davidson V-Rod when he defeated Bob Bradley of Fort Edward, NY in the final round. Guy Gardner of Stuyvesant, NY gave it his best shot but finished in the semi-finals.

Then there is the Summit ET Sportsman Class which is a money winner if you make it down to the final and semi-finals. Long time racer Russ Wilber of Ghent, NY took his 1966 Chevy Belair to the winner's circle when he defeated past champion Billy Kirpens, Jr from Pittsfield, MA in his 1967 Plymouth Barracuda. Ed Martelli of Schenectady, NY finished his night in the semi-finals.

I have to take a moment to thank John Orloff, one of our Street Stick racers, and the families of the racers for helping me out with photos on Wednesday nights. I appreciate the help. ~Sue
